guided tours in Southern France

Hello,
I am a single woman who is going on a Road Scholar trip to Southern France ("The Best of Southern France: Provence and Cote D'Azur) from 9/7-15/17.
I would like to extend my trip and visit more places.
I would appreciate recommendations for guided tours as well as places to stay.
My trip begins in Avignon and ends in Nice.
I love Matisse, Dufy and other artists as well as the beauty of the area.

Thanks,
Harriet

Check out the Greeters program. Most large cities have one apparently, tho I only recently discovered it. We wanted to see Marseille but everyone told us it was gritty & a bit rough, & there were lots of neighborhoods you need to avoid (lots of crime in some areas) so I booked a tour with Marseille Greeters. http://www.marseilleprovencegreeters.com/en/ It's a program with volunteers who do it because they like meeting new people & helping visitors enjoy their city. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Michelle, a retired teacher! She helped us navigate the city, pointed out the best views & some historical sites, stay in the safe areas, even showed us the proper way to find & ask for the bathroom. She met us at the train station & stayed with us for around 2 hours, she refused any tips, she wouldn't even let us buy her a coke! We made a donation to the organization but she would not personally accept anything from us, she was just doing it because she enjoys it. You can tell them what interests you and they try to match you up to someone that fits the bill. Highly recommend this awesome program!! We are doing another one in Nice next week :) Guidedwalking tours can be very expensive, so I was very happy to find this amazing program! Hope this helps!
