Guided tours

Trying to finalize our plans for Paris. Is it your opinion that a guided tour is necessary for Notre Dame and/or St. Chapelle? Or is that pretty much self explanatory?
Thanks,
Pam

I just returned from Paris 2 days ago. I had the Rick Steves' Paris pocket book and it all I needed going through Notre Dame. He hits the high points etc.

Enjoy your time there!

No need for a guided tour of either place unless you want a very full explanation. A good guidebook should tell you enough, and if you want more I'd guess you could purchase a more detailed guide so each place, in English, there or nearby. I'd certainly suggest reading something about these sights ahead of time, and any English-language handouts they provide, to get a fuller understanding of what you're seeing. They're not truly "self-explanatory."

At Sainte Chapelle, look for the hand-held placards describing the stained glass windows. And bring binoculars to see them well.

As for me it's always better to have a good tour guide. No book can describe wonderful sites as a professional tour guide. He will make yor travel much more interesting than simple letters on a page. It's very easy to find a good specialist nowadays, just hire a tour guide online, for example on 2Polyglot. I've tried twice and was happy to get professional help.
