My group of four plans to travel to Normandy this autumn. We would like to learn about Joan of Arc while in Rouen. We note that the most recent RS book on France describes the Joan of Arc museum as "tired," so we'd be interested in a guided tour (preferably human rather than audio recording) if we can locate a good one. Any recommendations?
I can't provide suggestions on a guided tour, though I would contact the tourist information office in Rouen to see if they have a list of companies or people offering such a service. They may not, but it's worth a try.
And -- I can't speak to the person who wrote the Rick Steves guidebook notation about the museum as "tired," but I would be willing to guess it's because it's a bit low-tech by today's standards. That said, it's still quite good, in my opinion, and if one is willing to set aside expectations for the latest snazziest flash, it still offers an enjoyable and informative recounting of Jean d'Arc's final days, which occurred in Rouen.
I don't think a guide is necessary, but everyone's different.
