Guide to Normandy

Can anyone recommend a guide to Normandy from Paris? If terribly expensive, we can take the train and meet the guide in Normandy. We have already visited Mont Ste. Michel, Rouen, St. Malo so really just want a day spent in and around the landing beaches and museum. Thanks for your help.

Sharon,

The easiest solution would be to spend at least one night in Bayeux, which will allow a full day for touring the D-Day beaches. Many of the tours depart at about 08:00 so it would be difficult to get there from Paris by that time. If you spend two nights, you'd also have time to visit the famous Bayeux Tapestry and visit the D-Day Museum there.

Some of the tours that come to mind......

Check the respective websites for prices and other information. It's generally a good idea to book WELL in advance, as some of these tours book up quickly.

One other question - when is your trip taking place? Some of the tour firms may only operate intermittently in the off-season, and may also take a break for a few days during anniversary time in June.

What ken said.

If you book a tour guide from Paris to Normandy from Paris, you will be paying for 4 hours of nothing (approximately 2 hours there and 2 hours back). If there is anything in between, you will be taking time away from the Normandy area.

To me and from when i was there, if you cant spend at least one full day there, i would do it some other time. I had allocated 1 full day for a personal tour from Bayeux and still didnt see all that i wanted to do/see. So i will be going back and spend at least 3~4 full days there just in Normandy and hopefully a few of the towns and an overnight stay at Mont Saint Michel.

happy trails.

Sharon,

Just returned from Normandy and used Edward Robinson of BattleofNormandyTours as a guide. He was recommended by Rick Steve's in his Normandy travel guide. He's absolutely outstanding. Personable, extremely knowledgeable and a skillful and entertaining story teller and teacher. Genuinely witty as well. You can rely of Edward to give you not only the basics, but also additional insights that only a studied historian would know.
