My niece is being married in Paris in June, invitation states black tie.
Any recommendations for 1) tuxedo rentals for kids. age 12 and 2) salon for hair styling and make- up application , hopefully close to Isle St Louis.
If your niece is using a wedding coordinator in Paris, I would check with him/her.
Consider getting the tuxedo before you go to Paris.
Years ago, I purchased a basic black tux at JCPenney’s (for the all the winter formals and proms) for one of my sons when he was in high school, and saved a ton on rentals.
Check it out: JCPenney.com
Try https://www.jjloc.fr/smoking for the tuxedo. Not to ask the obvious but are tuxedos really required for a 12-year old? I’ve been to black tie weddings and the tweens and the teens wore suits.
Black tie for a wedding is a very American concept. It’s not the norm in France so possibly a bit of a strange choice.
kids are generally not expected to wear black tie and a suit if he has one should be fine. Given that a 12 year old is at the beginning of his main growth spurt to buy ones seems excessive although you might be able to find it much cheaper than trying to buy or rent one in Europe.
Agree with all the above. I wondered if the bride and/or groom were Paris residents or if this was a destination wedding. Why not check with niece’s family regarding expectations and location of services?
I also thought this sounded quite “American” and wondered about a wedding planner or venue coordinator who might be helpful.
Hi folks
Many thanks for ‘chirping in’ your thoughts and suggestions.
I have checked with the bride and black tie absolutely is the dress code. Venue for wedding is at a posh chateau outside Paris. It’s a 3 day event, welcome cocktail party first eve, wedding 2 days later and after wedding brunch the following day , all at very swanky venues.
The bride does have a wedding planner whom we have contacted x2 but no reply..
Mom of boys has purchased suits for them but felt they couldn’t wear the same suit to all 3 events..So this is where the tux rental in Paris came in.
Also hoping to get the name of a good hair salon , …. Maybe keep hounding the wedding planners !!! ??
Ooh, fancy. I love it. I went to a wedding like that a couple of years ago and the bride had multiple makeup artists on call because she wanted all the guests who were interested to be able to have their makeup done professionally. About 20 of us, including the bride, met up a couple of hours before the wedding for makeup and hair — all part of the videography of the wedding. A friend who lives in Paris and works in fashion goes to Gloss’Up on Rue Charlotte. You can also try Pop My Day (https://www.popmyday.com/index.php?section=gift ). This is awesome!!
Thank you so much…
There is a hairdresser on the Rue Budé right on the Ile Saint Louis. I have only walked past it, so cannot comment on their services, but it may be worth considering.
Wow! Sounds like a very decadent event, enjoy!
Mom of boys has purchased suits for them but felt they couldn’t wear the same suit to all 3 events..So this is where the tux rental in Paris came in.
Are all the events surrounding the wedding black tie?
I’d suggest getting different color shirts and ties and no one would really know it’s the same suit.
And… For the wedding consider buying a tuxedo shirt and a bow tie!
Enjoy the wedding!
You can check out the various locations of CoiffFirst . They take appointments by phone during business hours.
Thanks for the suggestions folks.
Will follow up on all of them …
