Has anyone ever used this apartment rental company to rent an apartment in Paris? Their properties seem very nice and decent price (most on Ile de Cite or Ile St. Louis) but just wanted to check and see if anyone had any experience with them.
I have rented with them for the first week of June so I'll report back. The folks there were really nice so hopefully all goes well.
We had rented apartments in Paris and all around Europe for the last 5 years through Airbnb.com site- it was always great experience!
in Paris we stayed near fountain Saint Michelle for less then $100 per night, for family of 4.
Hope it will be helpful:)
In 2014 my wife and I rented an apartment for 10 days using Guest Apartment Services. It was in the 4th. We were very happy with the apartment and with the organization. We would definitely go back to them if we were looking for an apartment in that area.
Though GAS has a good reputation as a rental company, and is acting legally by listing apartments and collecting rental fees, it must be remembered that there are only 107 apartments in Paris that are listed as legal by the Mayor's Office. The rest of the 200.000 apartments are being investigated before they can be added to the list.
Since the investigations into illegal rentals is continuing, it makes sense to rent with an agency which has multiple properties. In case the apartment you chose is no longer available (due to an intervention by the Mayor's Office), the agency would do its best to help you find another rental.
I have rented twice before and am returning this June for another week. They are a great value and we have never been disappointed. Do remember that after you pay the agency you then must pay the owner. Most do not accept credit cards. So wire transfers or money orders are required. You will be required to buy insurance as well not expense. We are renting a two bedroom two bath in rue Cler for 8 nights total cost $1760 us. Good luck. Paris is lovely.
Roger, I don't think you were renting with Guest Apartment Services, as they DO accept credit cards and you only pay them. We paid 50% up front and then will pay the other 50% on the day we arrive at the apartment. And we have our own private trip insurance.
I agree that Roger is not describing the typical apartment rental experience.
If I were required to purchase insurance before I could rent an apartment, I would refuse, because it is the owner's responsibility to have his property insured via a yearly contract. This insurance covers people visiting the property in the event of accident, fire, and flood, but visitors are not covered in the event of theft - only the owner is.
Some travel insurance policies do protect the person against theft and flight cancellations, etc, but not all of them. If you're concerned about theft and other things that might happen during your trip, you should investigate one of these policies.
I would also not recommend wiring money to an unknown person or agency unless you have verified their identity and are certain there's no scam involved. Social media is the best way to investigate, but you need to be extremely diligent before making a bank-to-bank transfer. I would never use a third-party wire transfer company, such as Western Union, because they are not safe.
We do not have experience with GAS, but we visited Paris for a week in April booking an apartment through ParisPerfect. It was fabulous!! ParisPerfect sent us a very thorough information packet detailing information about the apartment and the neighborhood, had a greeter meet us in the apartment when we arrived, had an office that we could contact during our stay in case we had any questions/concerns, as well as suggestions for transportation and tour options. We can not say enough about our experience with this company. The apartment was just as it was advertised, in a wonderful area, and fully equipped with everything that we could use for the week. We wish that we could have stayed forever. It was a fantastic experience.
Just wanted to update that our apartment rental with Guest Apartment Services could not have gone better. We went into their office the day we arrived to do the paperwork and the person checking us in then walked us to the apartment (right around the corner). She walked us through the security gate and then spent time showing us how the appliances and the safe worked. Later that week she saw us out walking while she was returning from lunch and flagged us down to ask how we were getting on (calling us by name).
We had a question during the week about arranging a taxi to the airport and popped into the office and they were very helpful. They even gave my DH an envelope when he mentioned he was going to the post office to buy one to mail something.
We will definitely rent from them again. The apartment was exactly as pictured and the linens and towels were all of super high quality.
