We will be visiting Guedelon Castle the first week of September. Thought we would spend about 3 days of our month in France in this area. Any ideas on lodging and other activities would be appreciated,

On the RS tour, we stayed in Bourges, which we thought was a lovely town. The cathedral was very impressive. I don't recall the hotel.

We stopped at the Guedelon on our way from the Loire Valley to the Burgundy area where we stayed near Avallon. I have a great B & B in that area if you are interested, but it is an hour east from Guedelon.

Your closest town is St. Fargeau at 10k, note not St. Fargeau-Ponthierry, which will also come up on a Google search. Your closest city is Auxerre about 35k, with Chablis only 14k beyond. After that in distance come Vezelay at 60k and finally Bourges, 80k.

We stayed in a small village near Guedelon and while it did work, we would stay in Auxere if we had it to do over to get a better choice of restaurants in the evening. The drive is not that long plus Auxere is an interesting town in its own right. Have fun.

The 60 km to Vezelay is only 37 miles and I agree with those who recommend Vezelay, an interesting town with an interesting Basilica.
