I am quite sure many will agree with me that Guédelon is absolutely worth a visit. They try to built the fortress the medieval way, meaning using tools and construction methods as used in that period. In general a visit needs about two hours.

I think it is hard to get there with public transport, so the best way is by car. Nearby Vezelay and further east Abbaye de Fontenay are worth a visit too.

Definitely worth a visit. As Wil wrote you do need a car to get there since it's in a remote location. The only negative I had was that it was raining when we visited and many areas were muddy, though if careful you could avoid it. Depending on crowd size and how you get hooked watching some of the ongoing construction, I'd recommend 3 hours for a visit. My traveling companion had visited the site on an ETBD tour five years prior to our visit and she was amazed at how much was accomplished in that time.

Visiting Guedelon also enhances your visits to other medieval sites since you now can marvel at how they were built without today's modern construction equipment.

I agree with Wil and Philip that it is very interesting. I visited last month with an RS tour and really enjoyed the guide there. As happens on a tour, I did not have enough time to see everything I was interested in. Do be aware that at lunch ~everyone~ stops working so there no demos going on in the craft huts then. If you are there mid-day, eat when everyone else does then finish your visit after everyone is back to work. This was a fascinating place. I would allow at least 3 hours with some extra time for a meal. They project it will be done in 7-9 years so go soon, lol!

I also agree it would be a mess if it is raining. We got there with sunshine but there were some muddy patches. When we got back to the bus I noticed that the drivers, Annie and Math, had put some boot scrapers out and covered the steps with damp towels. They like to keep a very clean bus and Annie said that day is always the worst as far as clean up is concerned. They were NOT concerned that we were tracking dirt onto the bus, but just wanted to minimize their clean-up time. If it is raining, I would have a change of shoes in the car and some plastic to set the muddy shoes on.

I visited with my then 11 yr old dd , 8 years ago.. on a RS tour and it was great.. I would definitely visit again , I am sure there is that much more done, but while we were there it seemed there was already a lot of work done.. it was so educational..

I would also allow 2-3 hours .. and I would not want to go on a rainy day as much is uncovered .

I agree it is interesting, but I wouldn't make it a primary destination. Maybe if it is on the way to something or somewhere else.
