Grignan Area or Rhone Valley Hotel -- worth it for a night?

Hi All,
I've been planning a 10-day trip to France with your help. So far, I've got 3 nights in Aix; 3 nights in Lourmarin, 1 bonus night TBD, and 2 nights in Paris before returning home (in May).

My goal is to relax, not see/do everything...enjoy the views, eat good food, take nice walks, etc. I need help:

  1. I have one night at the end of my trip to Provence and I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking a wine hotel or spa hotel might be nice -- possibly near Grignan or other Rhone Valley spot -- or I could do an overnight in St. Remy (or elsewhere).

I'm looking for a place that has great views/gardens, comfortable rooms, and warm service and relative ease (no complicated parking situations, etc.). Either walking distance to a village or with nice food/wine nearby or at the hotel. I want to soak up the lovely Provence energy before heading to Paris. Any thoughts on hotels/inns that might fit the bill? I'll be traveling by train back to Paris the next day (either Avignon or Aix). Unfortunately, I don't speak French if that matters. Any ideas? Is Grignan nice? Has anyone stayed at Clair de la Plume? Do other ideas come to mind?

I appreciate your help!

I'd say Grignan is a bit far for just one night.

If your budget is generous (we're talking 500 dollars here), you could splurge at Hôtel Crillon Le Brave which is exactly what you describe, or at La Maison de Crillon next door (still expensive but much less so).

There are also plenty of options in the Luberon, especially around Gordes and Joucas.

Or, things tend to be cheaper on the Languedoc side of the Rhône. Perhaps you could try Le Vieux Castillon near Pont du Gard, or something in Uzès? Going back to Avignon TGV will be easy afterwards.

These suggestions are helpful, thank you! I had to pause the planning but am back at it. I still have this one night open and it's coming up soon. Looking for something not too far from Avignon since I'll take the TVG the following day. Priority is ease, relaxation, comfortable room, and a good view of the countryside (or gardens/vines). I'd love a bathtub but it isn't essential, and friendly service and good food & wine nearby or on site. If you have additional suggestions of specific hotels/inns to look into, I'd love to hear them. Budget is under $500, hopefully less.

Les Bories near Gordes, maybe? Just barely in budget but very nice - not sure about walking distance to Gordes, though. Or Le Phébus in Joucas, same category, cheaper because not in Gordes, similar issue about walkability.

Another set of excellent suggestions! Thank you.

I'm just taking a quick look now. Les Bories looks nice, but some people point to issues of needing upkeep and/or poor service. Though it's hard to know how true reviews are...Coquillade gets good reviews, but it seems like one of the restaurants is closed and food may be lackluster/expensive?

Thus far, Le Vieux Castillon near Pont du Gard stands out. People seem to love it and it is more affordable. Le Phébus also looks promising. I quite like Hôtel La Maison de Crillon, but the standard room is the only one available and looks quite different from the other (nicer) rooms. Any thoughts on Pont du Gard vs. Le Phebus location in terms of ease/beauty/wine & food?

I really like Gran Hotel Henri but there's no availability (though recognize it's not exactly what I described). Hotel Le Prieuré in Avignon -- different than the others but could also possibly work. I'm going to try to spend a little time tomorrow looking into other options. I'll update if I find others in case it's useful to others.
