Grignan Area or Rhone Valley Hotel -- worth it for a night?

Hi All,
I've been planning a 10-day trip to France with your help. So far, I've got 3 nights in Aix; 3 nights in Lourmarin, 1 bonus night TBD, and 2 nights in Paris before returning home (in May).

My goal is to relax, not see/do everything...enjoy the views, eat good food, take nice walks, etc. I need help:

  1. I have one night at the end of my trip to Provence and I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking a wine hotel or spa hotel might be nice -- possibly near Grignan or other Rhone Valley spot -- or I could do an overnight in St. Remy (or elsewhere).

I'm looking for a place that has great views/gardens, comfortable rooms, and warm service and relative ease (no complicated parking situations, etc.). Either walking distance to a village or with nice food/wine nearby or at the hotel. I want to soak up the lovely Provence energy before heading to Paris. Any thoughts on hotels/inns that might fit the bill? I'll be traveling by train back to Paris the next day (either Avignon or Aix). Unfortunately, I don't speak French if that matters. Any ideas? Is Grignan nice? Has anyone stayed at Clair de la Plume? Do other ideas come to mind?

I appreciate your help!

I'd say Grignan is a bit far for just one night.

If your budget is generous (we're talking 500 dollars here), you could splurge at Hôtel Crillon Le Brave which is exactly what you describe, or at La Maison de Crillon next door (still expensive but much less so).

There are also plenty of options in the Luberon, especially around Gordes and Joucas.

Or, things tend to be cheaper on the Languedoc side of the Rhône. Perhaps you could try Le Vieux Castillon near Pont du Gard, or something in Uzès? Going back to Avignon TGV will be easy afterwards.
