Ouigo question

I've done research, planning our train travel in May. I want to ask if I am correct. Ouigo is the "budget" train, still highspeed, but no amenities, such as a diner car? Is there access to drinks and snacks , at all, on this train? I am booking De Gaulle airport to Avignon, direct. I have created an account on SNCF and experimented with routes. It seems this is the only option for a direct route. We will be jet lagged and certainly don't want to deal with changing trains, on that day, especially. Thanks

There is no catering on Ouigo: buy before you board! Plenty of places to do so in the arrivals area of the airport or at the train station.
There should be a mix of regular TGV and low-cost Ouigo on that route from CDG to Avignon, but if the Ouigo time is more convenient, take the Ouigo. Do schedule 3 hours between flight landing time & train departure time, and for Ouigo, purchase additional luggage allowance as needed.

I personally would never book a Ouigo on a long haul trip like that if I could help it. The seats are excruciatingly uncomfortable especially for a long trip. We had one for just a 2 hour trip last spring and found it miserable. The seats were all cast plastic in a shape that was both not adjustable and uncomfortable. Not having catering is the least of your problems with this line.

If you must take them, then just bring a picnic and plenty to drink. But regular seats on a TGV are far better.

Ouigos are not ideal, but you’ll probably fall asleep anyway. There are a number of places at CDG, Paul for example, where you can purchase sandwiches and other foods ideal for travel.

Thank you for the responses. In order to book a standard SNCF highspeed, not the Ouigo, it appears I would need to leave from a different station, other than the airport. Could someone make a suggestion that would serve us better? I know I have got to research this option more, myself. We have never used the French trainline, so, just looking for some guidance. Flight arrives early morning... The Ouigo leaves at 1236. I sure would like it if the train was more comfortable than plastic seats(as someone mentioned).. Therefore, the search is on.

You’ll get much better answers if you give us date, time information. We’re just guessing unless we know when you arrive and the date. The date is important as schedules often change and trains available on Sunday may be completely different from those available Monday.

The seats on the last Ouigo train I rode, had no armrests. They are not plastic stadium style seats.

The more information you supply, the better the answers will be.

By looking on the DB (Deutsche Bahn- German Railways) website (the go to for much of Continental Europe) there is a SNCF TGV at 1457 from CDG arriving at Avignon TGV (so same stations) arriving at 1807.
This is a sample date of 14 May, but another sample in March gave same time and fare.

The previous SNCF one was at 1000.

Fare 125 Euro.

So that gives you more time to deal with any flight delays.

You can find that on the SNCF site by changing the time of search to 1430 but SNCF is far less intuitive as a website.

Thanks for the tips.. The flight arrives 0615 on May 21. I also, wondered if maybe all the timetables were not available due to being more than 3 months out? Just a thought.

So what I am seeing for that day is 2 TGV direct trains at 0826 and 1457.
The 1457 is sold out in 2nd class (3 months ahead?), and is 168 Euro in 1st Class.
I also see a 0958 with 1 change at Lyon Part Dieu where you have a 68 minute wait- E111.50 2nd Class, E117.70 1st class. At least it's a same station change and not going into Paris.
All others are Ouigo.

They are all on the SNCF-Connect site and app. You don't need to look at DB.

May 21st, a Sunday, arriving at 6:15, you have the following TGV trains leaving Aeroport CDG:
8:26 direct TGV
8:54 one change in Lyon
9:58 one change in Lyon
For myself, I'd book the 8:26 because I am always at the Gare 1.5 hours after landing. But I have direct flights from the east coast. You may have many other variables. Seats on the 8:26 are 79 euros in second and 117 in first. Second, I'd book the 8:54 with a 40 minute layover in Lyon. The 8:54 costs 77 in second and 87 euro in first. You could also fall back on the 9:58. Even with a change, these are preferable to hanging around the nothing-to-do-CDG train station.

After that, you run into your Ouigo trains:. This later train, gives you 6.5 hours to hang out in the station. Way too long. There is nothing to do there.
12:36
1:58 is another OUIGO

The 14:57 has only first class left at 117 euros.

Sunday is the return day from a 4-day holiday weekend, so seats are selling more quickly than usual.

Like Janet, OUIGO isn't my cup-of-tea, especially after a transatlantic. The seats are split 1 and 3 three in a row, narrow aisles, very little luggage space. You might fall asleep, and you'll have a neighbor to fall on if you are three-across. I feel claustrophobic. These do appeal to my friends when they score a 10euro ticket to go north to Paris for a couple of days with only a change of clothes. We used OUIGO last fall when I forgot to book our tickets for a conference, and it turned out to be fall vacation week. Other trains were full, so we squeezed into OUIGO and went.

@ Bets... I like option 2... thanks so much... Update... After going back and looking at website,, I think I will opt for the direct train at 0826. That gives us over 2 hrs between flight and train departure. We've never had problems, so far with our direct flights from the states arriving late, so I think I'll take the chance.

Be sure to book on the SNCFCONNECT app or website. Your prices could be a bit higher than mine because the site automatically recognized my senior discount card when I did the search for you.
