Gorges du Verdon in 1/2 a day?

I will be part of a week-long walking tour along the Riviera and based out of Antibes. I get the afternoons and evenings free, and I am quite interested in seeing the Gorges du Verdon. Obviously, it is my vacation and I can choose to go my own way and take a day off from walking with the others. I see various tours but they are all 8-9 hours. Is it possible to visit them in 1/2 a day on my own? I don’t want to rent a car, though.

Is it something I might be better off saving for a return trip?

phx115,
I believe it would take about two hours there and two hours back, by car, with no stops or traffic problems. A half-day just wouldn't be enough time. Look for an all-day tour. You might check the Antibes tourist Bureau for recommendations, or Trip Advisor perhaps. Best of luck.

A half day isn't just possible, as mentioned, due to the driving time. Generally you want to take the slow driving path along the gorge (with many photo stops) and maybe take a water craft down below. That is why all the day trips are quite long, And that is without any hiking....

I really appreciate the feedback, suggestions, and link. I didn’t realize it was further away than I had been thinking. I will have to give this a bit more thought.

The Gorges du Loup are quite scenic (different: much narrower) and easily combined with the scenic villages of the area, like Gourdon and Tourettes sur Loup. I'd consider that alternative.
