I am printing up Google maps with directions for our drive through Provence. Several of the maps have orange triangle warning signs in the directions with say, "Restricted usage road." Does this mean we cannot drive on that road, and if so, why does Google maps give it as their first choice route? Nearly every map I've printed has at least one notice like this on it. I'm concerned I won't be able to get where I'm going! Help, please! :)
I would use www.viamichelin.com for a more Eurocentric view. More up-to-date info. They will include details instead of just warning triangles.
Thank you both so much. I had no idea! I use Google maps all the time in the States and they usually serve me well. I have now looked at some of my routes on the Michelin maps and find that they are much more helpful. I would never have known this. I felt silly asking about this, but I sure am glad I did. Happy travels!
The viamichelin maps do not distinguish between single carriageway roads & dual (divided) highways - as far as Britain is concerned. Don't know about elsewhere but I would certainly not use them for Britain.
We are only traveling for two days through the countryside around Avignon and Arles, France. I am finding that the Michelin site has trouble with some of the addresses I've given it to look up, but otherwise it seems okay. I've printed the google maps as well as these, so hopefully we'll be able to find our way. Thanks for the tip!
Though I normally use a GPS, I would opt for the Michelin Provence Map #527. If I'm not mistaken, the triangles indicate current construction zones.
Edit: they reflect "other incidents" most likely only temporary.
Here's a link to more info on the symbols. Open "View traffic incidents."
Thank you! This is most helpful.
