Good value B&B's Mont St. Michel & Amboise

We're a family of 4 making a one- week driving excursion out of Paris. Two nights in Bruges, 3 near Normandy/Mont St Michele (maybe stay in Honfleur, Bayeax, and/or Caen), then 2 nights in the Loire Valley near Amboise . We've booked the Cavalier hotel in Bruges, but would appreciate any suggestions on great hotels or B&Bs in the Mont St. Michele and Amboise areas. Any itinerary tips would be great, too.

For Mont-St-Michel, I would stay on the island in one of the hotels Rick recommends. You will have the island at night when the crowds have left, and it's magical. If you must stay at a B&B, Les Vieilles Digues or La Jacotiere are very nice, and you can walk from them to the shuttle bus that takes visitors to the island. In Amboise, I've stayed at La Grange Chambres and really enjoyed the room, the breakfast, the location, and the charming owner--who speaks Franglais.

When are you going? We are traveling in September. I've booked Hotel Particulier Poppa for Bayeux. A great price, stylish, and fabulous reviews. Can't wait to see if the hype is true. :)

Hi T.
Thanks for the feedback. We're trying to book on the island, have you stayed there?

Hi Julie,
We're going to be in that area in mid-July. Thanks for the Hotel Poppa tip, I'll check it out! Where else are you going?

Best, Marie

Marie, let me know if you get a room at Poppa, I'd be curious to hear what you think.

We are flying into Paris, taking the train to Caen, and staying 3 nights in Bayeux. We will spend a day exploring the area and maybe go to MSM. Another day will be spent fully dedicated to a DDay tour. Our 3rd day (4th night) we will explore the Pays d'Auge area on the Cidre Route. We will stay in Honfleur our 4th night and get a brief glimpse of the town before moving on to Paris for 5 nights. Wish we could spend more time there as there is so much to see but it's all the time off my husband could get, so we're making the most of what we have. I'd love to see the Loire Valley. I also want to see Bruges -- that'll be on an Amsterdam/Belgium trip. :)

What's your itinerary?
