I’ve been to Paris several times in the last nine years- once I shared an apartment with friends and on two others I was part of a tour, so stayed in the tour hotel. Next summer, pre Olympics, I’m hoping to take my granddaughter to Paris. Any suggestions for a safe, reasonably price hotel? We will mostly plan to walk or take the Metro.
What do you consider a reasonable price? Paris tends to be very expensive, so knowing your budget would be helpful.
Agree that your definition of 'reasonable price' needs to be more specific. The usual recommendations here are out the window for next summer. Hotels will book up WELL in advance of the Olympics start, with prices considerably above normal. The usual neighborhoods that are frequently recommended are the Marais, Latin Quarter, Rue Cler area, and St. Germaine. But you may need to search farther afield to meet your budget next summer. You might start by checking booking.com for likely suspects, then the websites of the hotels that interest you for availability.
Agree about checking on Booking.com.
Best source for hotels imo.
My favorite areas are: the Marais and Ile St Louis (both in the 4th arrondissement), the Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement), and St Germain (no E, and it’s not pronounced like the state of Maine, lol), in the 6th.
I’m not a fan of rue Cler or the 7th.
My favorite hotels are on Ile St Louis where you are in the heart of Paris on an island next to Notre Dame, surrounded by the river and amazing views. So fun and easy to walk from there to so many places. The hotels are: Hotel St Louis en l’Isle
Hotel de Lutèce
Hotel des Deux Iles
Agree that we need a money amount for reasonable. In my own family 150€ tops 200€ per night is what my brother means by reasonable and 250€ tops 300€ is what my sister means and those difference have a huge impact on my hotel recommendations to them. Meanwhile, in the absence of that pricing information, take a look at the Astotel hotel chain. Their properties are all on the Right Bank and I am a Right Bank person though I do like Saint Germain.
I would look into an Airbnb rather than a hotel both you and your granddaughter could have your own room and a place to have breakfast / coffee without getting dressed first. I took my grandson to France in 2016 and that is what we did. I don't work for Airbnb or anything like that I just find them more of home away from home than a hotel room. The price can be whatever you want to pay as you can set your budget limit on their search engine. Pre Olympics may be the finally of the Tour of France race, check your dates. J
Thank you for some great suggestions and thoughts. I will do more research on the “reasonably priced” amount.🙂
Booking.com will quickly tell you what the price range is and what you get for that price.
St Germain (no E, and it’s not pronounced like the state of Maine, lol),
Yes, no "e" but Stainte Germaine would be prounced like the state of Maine. Staint Germain has a different, shorter pronounciation, one without the strong "n" sound at the end.
Talking about Saint Germain des Prés area in Paris…
