Good food in Paris?

The French claim to have the best food in the world, and, although my experience on the subject has been limited to two short trips, I admit I have had some really good food in Paris. But snails, stinky cheese and tripe can grow old after a while, especially the cheese. One of my most memorable meals was a good hamburger at an American-themed greasy spoon, but another of the world's greatest foods has been missing, not only in Paris but in Europe at large.

There is still hope, however, according to The New York Times article, [American Barbecue in Paris][1]. I don't place a lot of faith in the NYT food and travel writers, but there is aways hope that they, and French cooks, will get it right if they keep trying. ; > )

I have had lots of great food in Paris -- and none of it included snails, stinky cheese, or tripe!!

Roast duck, sausages, baked chicken, steak, lots of different vegetables, all were prepared expertly and very tasty. Most were from smaller restaurants and none was from any type of chain restaurant.

I would no sooner order BBQ in Paris than I would order fois gras in Dallas. Having said that, I will be trying out the new Petit Trois in Los Angeles.

I like Big Fernand burgers and was happy to see a branch open in London. But you'd probably consider their cheese options "stinky".

We went to many countries on our first trip to Europe. I hated to admit it because it was such a cliché, but the best food definitely was in France.

Now, I see that I need to go to Paris to try Blues B-B-Q. The Texas flag, the poster for John Lee Hooker, the picture of Stevie Ray Vaughn, red plastic booths, how can a Texas native pass that up?

I've been sorely disappointed by the BBQ in AZ, yeah, it sounds like a trip to Paris est nécessaire.

We go to France annually and have some great meals and some less great meals. But we also have some great meals in the Washington DC area. We take a Michelin red guide and talk to our hosts in France. If you want a great burger, I would not recommend any I have eaten in France.

I am using Yelp and tripadvisor to plan all our meals. I know what we like, and small servings of frothy food is not it for us. It may be fabulous, but we are pretty simple and enjoy more hearty home-style food. The simpler the better. With that being said we do have our some foods on our list like Crepes, escargot, soufflés, French onion soup (onion soup only in France?), streak and fries, and my husband wants to do a good Steak Tartar. If you ask me, the stinker the cheese....the better!

I must have been very lucky when in Paris ... the worst food I ate there was good. Every 3rd door is some sort of eatery and, well, I ate when I was ready and hungry at wherever I chose.

On my second trip to Paris we were out just strolling around, looking for a place for dinner, and stumbled on a little neighborhood family-run restaurant. Papa working the cash register, mama cooking and the daughters & sons waiting tables. That was one of the BEST meals I ever ate. Just a simple roasted chicken with rosemary, little potatoes and a wonderful rose wine. Plus tables full of neighborhood locals. It was packed and everyone was having a wonderful time. It was delicious in more ways that one.

That trip was 12 yrs ago and I still recall that restaurant fondly. Unfortunately, I never made note of the name. But my point is, just look around for these small neighborhood places that are filled with locals. Good food and good times await!.

I know it's not what Roy meant, but every time I see the title of this topic in the list, it kills me a little bit.

The French make the best soups on the planet imo... not just onion soup. And the best hamburger we have ever had was in Paris... but that restaurant is gone now.
