Good affordable resturants near the Louve

My wife and I will be spending a week in Paris next month. Our apartment is just a few blocks east of the Louve. We have not been to Paris before and would appreciate your recommendations on where to eat out. Thank you.

We read Rick Steve's book and he highly recommended Rue Cler on the other side of the river from the museum--not a far walk from the Eiffel Tower or the river. He was not wrong; that is something worthwhile with a great restaurant....I think it was Cafe Bon De Marche or similar name. Actually, there were a few restaurants on that rather small street and all were great. Look at his Paris guide. We ate at a number of restaurants he recommended and all were nice.
Also, on the Louvre side of the river is the Jewish Quarter. Great restaurants in that area as well. I think that the closer you get to the main street, Champs-Elysses, the more expensive (except for the McDonald's).

Louvre. Correct spelling often helps when doing trip research.

Try Le Fumoir, 6 rue Admiral Coligny -- just across the street from the Louvre to the West. Good for lunch, may need reservations at dinner or for Sunday brunch. Good food, nice Parisian ambiance and fairly reasonable.

The site Paris by Mouth that Dave mentions above actually has a series of posts as well called "Not Terrible Near the Louvre," 'Not Terrible Near the Eiffel Tower," "Not Terrible Near the .. " -- you get the idea. Obviously it's tongue in cheek but it's meant to be a way to help you avoid the obvious tourist traps and have something a little better. They also have separate entries for places to go on Sunday / Monday nights, when some restaurants are closed.

I love their "Not Terrible" series! A humorous nod to the desperate diner situation we all find ourselves in from time to time.

Hey OP, check out La Regalade on rue Saint-Honore!

We always have fun trying the small "Mom and Pop" restaurants just walking down the street. Can't say we have ever had a bad meal. We were in Paris this summer and there are restaurants everywhere! They all put their menus on display with prices, so you can look around at several different places and then decide. Don't just stay on the main drag - take some strolls down side streets - you will find amazing food at good prices. Don't be afraid to ask the locals their favorite places (or the hotel clerks). We found the French people to be very friendly and helpful - including when you are trying to find the right subway direction or bus. And don't believe all the hype about having to dress "nice" - "don't look like a tourist" - guess what - there are French tourists in Paris, too and they dress like Americans!

Thank you all for the great insight. We continue to plan our eight day itinerary and are anxious to be there.

Although I doubt the French tourists look like Americans . . .

Just because your apartment is near the Louvre, don't limit yourself to that neighborhood for meals. It's very easy to get around by subway. On the parisbymouth website, look for the neighborhood favorites.
