Going to Paris 4 days : Purchase RS Paris book or Pocket Paris booklet?

Hello,
I'd like to know what is more advantageous to have while in Paris: I need recommendations for places to eat, have seen a lot that the city has to offer, but would like to go on walking tour of certain sections. Which would be more useful to have? I'd like to get both, but travel supplies are expensive--have to cut somewhere! :)

Thank you for your tips, and praying that the strikes end! Leaving for Paris on Thursday :(

Best wishes,
Christina

Save money by buying last years book second hand .

I don't personally use guide books for restaurant recommendations, forums are better .

Thanks for the tip! I thought that restaurant guide in the book would be an added benefit, but I'm actually purchasing for the walking tours.

I purchased the Pocket Paris book one year, and I think that would meet your needs. I also liked the smaller fold-out map that was in it.

I've purchased the Pocket Paris for my trip next month and also plan to download some of Rick's walking tours onto my phone.

You definitely don't need both. Info in the colorful pocket guide is condensed from the larger, mostly black & white city book. (Due to the paper used for color printing, both weigh about the same.) Restaurant descriptions are more detailed in the traditional book and it covers several more walk and tour routes, though some may cover territory you've seen before.

No need to purchase any guide book. It's all on the internet for you. I used Google Maps and entered all the sights I wanted to see and then emailed the links to myself to pull up on my phone whenever I wanted to do a "walk". Here is one I just did for Montmartre. You can click on "detail" to get the turn by turn directions.

You can also go to his website and download the maps and email the links to yourself.

Oh, that's wonderful--thank you so much for your Montmartre walking tour and all of the links to his tours--how generous of you!
Barring any delays or cancellations because of strikes, I hope it will be a great trip. I'm taking students and their parents over :)

You are very welcome. The Montmartre tour is just an example of what can be done. Not the ultimate tour since it started and ended from my hotel and did not include Sacre Coeur. I do recommend the Montmartre Museum and garden, though.
Good luck and have fun. I'm sure you will be a great tour guide.
