Hello,
Does anyone has any tipa on gluten free friendly restaurants in Annecy/Chamonix and L'isle sir la sorgue and possibly other in Provence?
Thanks all!
I can't vouch for any of these places, but your question seemed to be languishing, forlorn, in a strange forest made entirely without gluten.
Here are some places to start your search:
Gluten free places in Chamonix
Gluten free places in L'Isle-sur-La-Sorgue
You can use the same tool, or similar ones such as TripAdvisor, to find suggestions for other locations.
I don't now about specific restaurants in those places, however, for what it is worth....
I went to Paris with a friend who has celiac and it wasn't a problem at all. She would simply say to the server "Sans gluten?" and they would immediately point out on the menu what was safe for her. She had translated something like "Hello, I must eat gluten free, can you recommend?" into French and printed it on a card that she was prepared to show. She only had to show it once the entire week.
Thank you both,
I searched and used google off course, just wondering if anyone has any experience.
For Paris it seems easier as I found some gluten free bakeries and restaurants, in Provence I could find one dedicated gluten free restaurant, however, seems not proper for children ;).
I will be staying in a house in Provence, so provably will do some cooking, but we would like to taste some local cuisine (at lease me;)), but my daughter has celiac so I need to find some friendly restaurants.
I still have a year to search more.
Thanks once again!
As I learned from the trip with my friend, a restaurant doesn't have to be specifically "gluten-free" to have gluten-free options. I know we were in a bigger city, but we never ate at any gluten-free specific places. I think if you do as she did -- translating a simple phrase about needing to be sans gluten into French -- you'll be OK. :-). Bon appétit!
Thanks, yes, there are many approaches in this, some do not wat at all on places serving both gluten and gluten free items due to possible of cross contamination.
We prefer to go to dedicated gluten free restaurants, bit for sure, we would compromise on places offering gluten free dishes as well.
Merci!
In Annecy/Chamonix, make sure to have Raclette - cheese & potatoes, not healthy but definitely gluten free!
And beware of mountain huts, where many dishes are likely to be bread-based. If you intend to hike, pack a picnic.
Provence should be easier overall - not for dedicated GF restaurants, but for finding inherently GF options on menus. Fish isn't breaded or cooked meunière, flour-based sauces are non-existent, etc.
Can't help on more specifically GF restaurants, alas.
EDIT: just remembered one I read about, it is fancy (Michelin Star) though. La Fenière right outside Lourmarin, in the Luberon.
Thanks,
Yes, I would probably take the chances with restaurants offering gluten free menu and not dedicated gluten free (like I will do in Paris).
La Feniere is something I also read about, I will contact to see what is the menu (although I am willing to try almost everything, my wife is less flowing with this;), and of course, mu children as well.
Anyway, I am pretty sure we will manage to find aomwthing that fits our daughter.
Thanks a lot!
