Global Entry at CDG? Does enrolling in Global Entry make sense at all?

Would enrolling in Global Entry make it easier and quicker to get through the lines at CDG (which most RS aficionados seem to believe are really bad!) ?

Merci!

GE has nothing to do with entry into Europe. It is solely for returning to the US and US immigration and customs.

Global Entry doesn’t make sense as others have mentioned at CDG, only US airports. We really like having it though as it gives us TSA Pre on all our domestic flights, is good for 5 years, makes re-entry into the US a breeze and the cost was reimbursed by our airline cc.

The answer to your question is NO as it has nothing to do with entering Europe or Asia or South America.

However, as I consider LAX hell on earth, I have it and throughly enjoy using it when I return from traveling outside of the US. Always makes me smile as I bypass countless humans standing in lines as I head to a Kiosk.

So depending on the US airport where you will fly in out of of only you can decide.

The first time I got it and returned to Chicago the lines for immigration in Chicago stretched blocks beyond the immigration hall -- I asked a guard what the procedure was for Global Entry -- he said 'you just keep walking' and we did, past this line of hundreds till we came to some self service kiosks where there were not even lines at all -- we were through immigration in 5 minutes once we got past the very very very long line. The lines have not been that long since -- but it is still nice to have such a smooth entry after a long flight.

And of course when you leave the country you have TSA pre-check which makes security a breeze.

But alas -- makes no difference in the return trip when in Europe.

Like the World Series, Global Entry is somewhat of a misnomer.

We applied for Global Entry a month ago, wanting to use it for our May/June trip. We primarily wanted TSA pre, but this is only $15 more. BUT, you need to interview in person, and the closest center to us- 2.5 hrs away- has no openings until 2023. I got approved for an appointment the day after submitting my application but my husband's application is still pending. We would fly to Seattle because they have openings, but can't until he gets his approval. Does not make sense for just 1 of us. You can't see which cities have openings until you get approved! Even LAX has no openings, San Francisco none until after our return... so no TSA pre for us for this trip.

It has been difficult to get an interview slot in a convenient location for many; they seem to have cut back (covid?) on the airports that will do this.

When I got mine finalized in 2018, I had my appointment scheduled but, in the meantime, returned from a trip to Europe. We first arrived in an airport that had GE appointments and since I was only an interview away from finalizing GE, I was allowed to do "interview upon arrival" at customs. They then cancelled my upcoming appointment for me and I was done!

I don't know if you can still do "interview upon arrival" but that might be an easier option than scheduling an appointment. Your first point of entry in the US must be an airport that can do this. We just spent a day going to Atlanta and back from our home in SC to complete the process for my husband. The GE interview process takes a mere 15 minutes.

goanywhere, you can still do interview upon arrival, but that won't help us flying out of San Francisco wanting TSA pre. I did see openings in Atlanta. A bit far to go ...

Lydia, are you flying IN TO Paris as well as OUT OF Paris? If you are flying in elsewhere for your first Rick tour then you'd not worry about in-bound passport checks in Paris. Your passport is checked on the way out but it's just a stop on the way to the Security lines.

Still, as others have said, Global Entry is not useful until you get to your US arrival airport. If you don't have Global Entry, you can download the Mobile Passport app and use that to bypass any lines. Where are you arriving in the US?

I was only trying to offer a solution to complete the process once re-entering the US since it seems challenging to complete the process prior to departing the US

Let me tell you why GE would be good to have for returning to the U.S.

On my last return to the USofA, in January, at JFK, I went from exiting the plane to exiting the terminal in 8 minutes. And that includes going through immigration and customs.

Thank you Global Entry.

What's fun is that for some flights back to the USofA, if you have TSA Precheck, it may show up on your boarding pass. I've seen this at Heathrow airport in London, where people insist they have it and demand to know where it's located. When told it doesn't exist in London, they wave their boarding passes to show it.

Global Entry is global in sense that World Series is World.

Apparently the world or the globe ends when you hit ocean

think of it as entering the US from anywhere. on the globe -- since it is the international part of TSA pre --- TSA pre is domestic and Global Entry is for entering from outside the country.
