Giverny- Monet's Gardens and the Museum of Impressionism

I am contemplating buying a dual ticket in advance for Giverny: Monet's House/Garden and the Museum of Impressionisms. To those who have gone before: is the museum worth it if I am also planning on seeing Impressionist works at the museums in Paris? Is it in walking distance from Monet's House/Gardens?

Definitely worth a separate trip to Giverny and the museums in Paris with Impressionist art. The Orsay Museum and the Orangerie Museum are full of Impressionist paintings. I am sure you will enjoy it all!
Just reread your original post, do you mean a museum near Giverny? I am not familiar with that.

Hi Carolyn, I think it's worth it to see the museum while you're in Giverny. I don't think there are any "original" Monet paintings at the museum, I believe that they are all in Paris or on tour. The museum was set up nicely and I think there was a film you could view. There's also a gift shop (there's another nice shop next to Monet's House). It is within walking distance to the House & Garden. Also stop by the church yard to see his grave.

If you are a Monet fan, make time to see the Marmottan Museum while you are in Paris. It's a private collection of Monets. An excellent museum in the 16th arrondissment.

I went to the museum in Giverny many years ago and unless it has changed, it is a museum of works by American impressionists, many of whom were either inspired by or worked with Monet. There were some paintings by Mary Cassat, but none by Monet there. It is a beautiful modern building, well lit to show off the paintings off to their best advantage. They have a really nice restroom (toilette) as well as a cafe. I think it is well worth the time.

I have visited in 2010 both Monet´s house and nearby (short walk) Musée des Impressionismes the same day and found the latter certainly worth a visit. You will see there paintings of lesser known artists, but some I liked as much as those painted by the more famous artists. The museum explains and shows in how the works are displayed the history behind Impressionisme (influence of photography for instance) in an easy to oversee collection and gives really more insight about this Art Movement. More insight means more feel and to my opinion this museum does, not a waste of time if you ask me.

Really have to dig in my memory, so unless I missed something can't remember works of American artists during my visit, but in the meanwhile there can be changes in the exhibition ofcourse.
