Giverny Gardens: Advance ticket critical?

Hello, the hubby and I will be based for 4 full days in Rouen in late May this year. We plan to visit Monet's Gardens (not the museum). Of course, the weather may turn out rainy and cold on our intended day.

Would we be crazy to wait and see, perhaps to book tickets near our May 25/26th dates when we can check a forecast?

Thanks for helping with this!

I've been about 4 times. Very lengthy line for those without tickets and an entrance around the back for those with tickets. I specifically used the term entrance around the back rather than line, as there was no line. Unfortunately the ticket in advance with weather scenarios is common, problematic and annoying.

How will you be traveling from Rouen? If you are coming by car, them simply arrive around 8:30. You'll be at the front of the line to purchase tickets and will have an uncrowded garden to enjoy for an hour or so.

Two years ago I booked the day before my visit to the Gardens at the end of October. I had been kind of looking at the website to see how ticket sales were going to I knew there had not been a problem booking that close to my visit. I'm going again this year and will be watching the website as before.

I'd recommend you watch the official ticket website and see how things are going with tickets. If your dates look like they are filling up, go ahead and buy and just gamble on the weather.

For any lurkers who are taking the train, I booked my train ticket the morning of on the SNCF app.

In September, I booked my ticket in advance but only maybe 36 hours before. I second the advice to periodically check availability!

Thanks everyone, for your insights and advice. (And no, we aren't driving.)

We'll start checking how tickets are booking up, several weeks in advance. And weather is uncontrollable, so we'll still enjoy it!
