Giverny and Versailles on same day?

How easy would it be to see both in the same day, by train?

It wouldn't be easy, and I wouldn't even attempt it myself.

Different trains, different stations. Versailles is RER "C" from the Left Bank, Giverny is via Vernon from Gare St-Lazare on the Right Bank. Neither place requires a full day (unless you want to see everything at Versailles), but the logistics of getting between them will eat up too much time. If you really want to see both, do on separate days.

I would not do it because I don't like rushing from place to place but you could probably make it work if you are willing to get to Giverny when it first opens at 9:30. That would mean leaving Paris at around 8 AM and taking a taxi from Vernon to Giverny so you arrive at 9:30 with your pre-purchased skip the line tickets (I am assuming that you are interested in seeing Monet's house). And you have to hope that taxis are available at Vernon. They have taxis there but none may be available when you arrive. There is also a shuttle bus but I have never taken it. It might be scheduled to coordinate with the arrival of trains from Paris. There is a 12:50ish train back to Paris that gets you to Gare St Lazare at around 2 PM. You have to be disciplined and leave Giverny in time to get to Vernon because the next train leaves two hours later. From GSL, you do not have to get to RER C. Just take Transilien train service (Line L) from GSL to Versailles Rive Droite and walk twenty minutes. The train trip is around 40 minutes and then there is the 20 minute walk but there is usually a train at around 2:15 so you would get to Versailles at around 3:15. Would that leave you enough time at Versailles? Three hours at Versailles is more than enough for me but others can spend the day there. Of course, you would have to check to make sure that Transilien Line L is not having any issues on your travel date.

I think you could do it if all you're interested in is saying that you did it. But if you actually want to see and enjoy both sights, it's absurd.

What Robert said. See Versailles including the grounds and smaller mansions, or wander Giverny and see the house. Both are worth a day or at least three quarters of a day. That way you will enjoy one or the other. Try to see both in a day and you won't really see either.

If you are nimble you could combine Giverny and Rouen, if you want to cover a lot of ground. But not Versailles.

You would spend a lot of time traveling and then rush through the venue, not much fun for me.

Thanks everyone! Guess it's not a good idea. I have 8 days in Paris so I have time to do both. I just wondered if it would be time efficient to do both on one day.

There are organized bus tours which take you to both places in one day. A friend of mine did this a couple of years ago - Viator tours - was completely exhausted by the end of the day, and didn't think the experience was worth it, except for the fact that the bus was air-conditioned.

I'll add that neither attraction is right beside the train station. Anyway, it's like combining Olympia and Seattle by car the same day.

Went to both Versailles and Giverny last year - on different days. It would be madness to try to do both in one day.
