We are planning a 2week + trip in May. Most of trip will be driving. We will need to train from Paris to Giverny area (pick up car). Then after driving Normandy, Brittany, Loire, Dordogne we plan to return car in Bordeaux and then train back to Paris to catch flight home. Are the Giverny trains and Bordeaux-Paris trains running? How is the strike affecting car travel, if at all? Ideas and thoughts are appreciated 😊
Nobody can predict now whether there will be a strike in May, much less on a particular date. However, in 2018, French rail strikes did run about three days/week for several months. During a strike, a percentage of trains are cancelled, which may be somewhere between 20 and 80 per cent, usually announced by the night before at https://www.oui.sncf/train/greve with some info further ahead. Car travel is not automatically affected, but sometimes truckers or other industries decide to join in the strike, blocking highways, etc.
Your version of the same question last week also has relevant replies.
Would love to drop the car in the Dordogne but unsure as to where I can drop off. Will have to research. Best train from Dordogne to Paris?
