"After retiring in Seattle, a school teacher ventured to the Lake Geneva area of Eastern France..." and bought a great small home.
That's a nice article—thanks for sharing, Estimated Prophet! It would be nice to have family where you are relocating to!
Thank you for sharing this! Fun read.
The Hunt is one of my favorite features in the NYT! I always save it until Sunday morning and will read your post then.
Lovely article. Thanks for sharing. It's so great that she lives near family.
I don't know if I missed it or not, but is she a citizen there now or on a visa?
-- Mike Beebe
that was my question Mike!
Her first year would be a visitor’s visa. She then renews yearly for a resident visa. At five years, she’ll be able to request a five year or a ten year visa, but she’d have to pass the language tests at a high intermediate level. If she can’t pass, she can continue requesting one-year visa renewals.
For citizenship, she could begin the process at five years, but she’d have to pass culture and language tests at an even higher level. So no, she’s not a citizen and it’s unlikely her language will reach the required level.
Getting a 14 year old Labrador Retriever from Seattle to Evian must have been a nightmare.
Susan, I too love The Hunt. For me though it’s normally a Friday night treat after I have made it through the week !
Thanks Estimated Prophet.
