Getting to Uzes - via Avignon or Nimes

We are travelling by rental car from Nice to meet friends staying in Uzes. I would like to drop off the car as close to Uzes as possible, as we will be travelling with our bags. Can anyone advise me on whether to drop off the car in Avignon, or Nimes? I would like to choose the car drop off place where travel the rest of the way to Uzes would be easiest, involving the least number of transfers.

I have looked at trains and buses on sites like SNCF and Rome to Rio but it seems confusing. For example, a suggested route from Nimes is a bus to Pont du Gard, then a car to Uzes. So far I have not found a train or bus that gets me all the way to Uzes.

If there is a better place to drop off the car, please advise.

Thanks in advance,

Bruce

Don't drop off the car if you want to go to Uzès. Just park in one of the garages or parking lots once you get there. The train station closed at least twenty years ago. The bus takes forever and there are very few. If you have a car, this is the place you need it to get there. We stayed in Uzès for five months. We parked our car in the underground lot near City Hall during that time. Friends with a beat up old car who lived in Uzès parked theirs near the bull ring.

There is no train station in Uzes-I would keep it til after your time there

If you must drop I think Avignon would be much easier than Nimes

Uzes is lovely-we were just there

Why would you want to drop off the car to go to Uzès? This is typically the kind of place and region where you'll absolutely need one.

There is no train station in Uzès, and public bus transportation isn't designed for sightseeing but for locals and students/schoolchildren. Moreover, Uzès doesn't depend on the same regional transport organization as Nice or Avignon, so don't bother searching, there won't be any buses to take you to Uzès from Nice.

Here is a link to the bus schedule from Nimes to Uzes. It is line 152 in the Ilo Occitanie network. It appears to run a number of times every day year round and takes about 40 minutes. Bus line 115 in the same network runs from Avignon to Uzes; it takes about an hour and stops on the way in Pont-du-Gard. I cannot comment on whether it makes sense for you to take the bus versus keep your car. I have been researching possible travel without a car and happened to have bookedmarked these routes.

Thanks for all the helpful replies!

We will be staying with a group of friends who will have cars, so I thought ours would be sitting idle all week. It seems that it would cost approximately $240 more to keep the car for the week. That is why I wanted to learn about the cost of dropping it off before reaching Uzes. I am still flexible at this point, just gathering information.

And thank you CD in DC for the bus schedule.

If your friends have cars, then you should drop your car at the Avignon TGV station and they should come get you in a couple of cars. That’s what people who live in Uzès do, they drive each other to the TGV stations. It’s an hour each way, not too much to ask of friends. You’re going to be contributing for gas and other transportation costs if you are depending on the other cars, so this isn’t too different.
