Getting to the Luberon area from Avignon

We are not planning to rent a car and see that a tour to this area looks like the way to get there. We are interested in seeing the lavender fields. We are planning to be there on June 5. Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it likely that we will see lavender at this time or are we too early? Has anyone used Provence with Gordana as it looks like it could be something we are interested in. I have tried to email them, but emails are coming back to me as not deliverable. Does anyone have any recommendations for getting to the lavender fields by tour from Avignon and with whom?
Thanking you in advance for your replies and time.

Lin,
I wouldn't go with any tour that is difficult to contact. Trip Advisor has many tour options listed. We always drive, so I have no recommendations, but you may find something at TA. Lavender "times" traditionally begin around mid to late June, but the climate has varied so much over the last few years that Mother Nature may have a surprise up her sleeve!
Another thought, why don't you try to contact the Avignon Tourist Authority to see if they have a list of tours available?
Best of luck!

Too bad you don't want to drive. Its a perfect area for it, easy driving. If you're not driving, look for a tour that stops in L'Isle-sur-le-Sorgue. One of my favourite places in France. 40 minutes from Avignon and 20 minutes from Gordes and the rest of the Luberon.

I can't speak to lavender in early June. Certainly there was LOTS of lavender and sunflowers when we were there in late June.

Just for the record, I concur with Darren…we are cautious/nervous drivers and it was easy driving in this region for a few days. From Arles we took the train to Avignon and to L’Isle-sur-laSorgue; otherwise we drove everywhere and enjoyed it a lot. Just sayin’. Have a great trip.

Just finished this trip a few weeks ago. I am happy to report that on June 5, Provence Excursions took us through some of the Luberon Villages. We went to Gords, Abbey of Senanque with its lavender fields, Roussillon and its ochre trails, and Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. It was an all day tour and we absolutely loved it. The lavender fields were not in full bloom, but they had blossoms so the purple hue was visible. I had hoped for full blooms but Mother Nature is in control and the guide said it would be another 3 wees for full blooms. The countryside was beautiful. Saw cherry trees toppling with fruit ready for picking, vineyards, etc. . Florine, the owner of the company and our driver, was very good. Safe driver too. The tour is advertised for 8 but there were only 4 of us so it was very personal. Would recommend and do it again.
