Getting to Annecy from Geneva

Hi,

My husband and I are traveling to Annecy for the first time, but are flying into Geneva. For ease, we would prefer to utilize a train or other form of public transport. Does anyone have any suggestions for the easiest mode? Also, any musts for Annecy or the area? We'll be there for 4 days. Thanks so much!

The direct railway line from Geneva to that part of France is currently closed for major reconstruction works that will link it to the main Geneva station.

Adrian,

Annecy is a beautiful place!
Have you considered visiting Chamonix?
We took a shuttle directly from Geneva's airport to Chamonix where we stayed for a few days before heading to Annecy.

Thank you all for your insight. I will check into this! And, we've already booked our stay in Annecy, but if time allows, we'd love to get over to Chamonix. Thanks so much for the tip!

Adriannoel,

Keep in mind that Chamonix is a 2 hours, 18 minutes train ride (each way) from Annecy, & if you plan to go up to the Aiguille du Midi, I'd recommend you get an early start, on a nice sunny day, otherwise you may not get to see much if the clouds start rolling in.

Here are a few websites you may find helpful:

Don't forget to try the delicious ice cream at Glacier des Alpes while in Annecy!

Enjoy your trip!

Take a look at the schedule on web site linked by JHK. We've taken that bus to and from Annecy and Geneva several times. But not all of the buses run from the airport; some are only from Geneva proper. If you fly into Geneva on the Swiss side (all international flights), then you just walk outside to the bus area. If you fly into the French side, you have to cross over to the Swiss side.

And Annecy is beautiful. We did a lot of walking along the lake, and also took buses along both sides of the lake. And I'll second the recommendation of Glacier des Alpes.
