I am trying to get a SIM card for Free (the mobile provider, not zero-cost) in Paris to use for 1 month. I understand they now have self-serve kiosks in a few places in the city. Does anyone here have experience with these? I know I could also go into their shop, but I'll arrive on Labor Day and assume it'll be closed.
FREE does have self-service kiosks around Paris. I have seen them in FNAC and in the FREE boutiques. The kiosks are used for service payments, to request service changes, and to order replacement SIMs, but I was not aware that they could be used to sign up new customers. Perhaps they can be used for that purpose but, virtually all retail will be closed on May 1st.
You might find a SIM at one of the Relais stores at CDG.
I have done that at a bar tabac not far from Gare de Lyon. It was several years ago. You choose a plan and you get a sim card.
You have to give a French address if I remember correctly. I gave my sister's. You pay $10 extra for the SIM.
