Getting from Nice to Milan

Hello, I am a new traveler who will be going to Europe for the first time. I have booked a place to stay in both Nice and Milan and I am having trouble finding a way to get there in time on a certain date in early June.

Is it too early for the train schedule to be out? What are the best/reliable/cheapest methods of transportation between these two cities?

Are you opposed to flying? That might be best for this trip.

It's just too early to buy a train ticket for June Check again around February. There are no direct flights between Nice and Milan's two airports so I would opt taking the train

It is a bit early to find a train from Nice to Milan. However, I see a train in Feb departing at 7:59a arriving in Milan at 11:10p with a connection. I don’t see any nonstop flights either but I don’t know the date you’re traveling.

There are many direct trains from the Italian border to Milan every day. So you take the local train, a TER, on the French side from Nice to Ventimiglia. There you get one of the many trains to Milan.
Nice to Ventimiglia runs every 20 minutes and takes under an hour. Tickets on line or at the station SNCF.
Ventimiglia to Milan is about 5.5 hours.
Use Trenitalia to explore and buy for the Italian side.

As Elizabeth writes.

It is really a very easy train connection. Changing in Ventimiglia from French to Italian trains, a very good service on both legs, and not very much time on either leg. No way a plane could be faster or less hassle.

don't worry about tickets now. You can walk up and get the French one minutes before the train leaves, no price advantage early on that route. No reservations, open seating in a double decker train. Go to the end, get off, get on the Italian train, maybe stopping in the cafe in Ventimiglia for a final helping of socca (they do a decent one there) before the Italian train. Get the Trenitalia app and buy your Italian one a day or two ahead, a bit longer if you see a fare you like but then you give up flexibility for a small gain in money.

To look how it will work pick the same day of the week this week or next and have a look. It won't change very much at all. If you can plan it now you can plan it then.
