Getting from Nice to Annecy

In September we'll be going to Nice for four nights. Our next stop will be Annecy - which is a 7 hour train ride. It looks like we an fly to Geneva - which takes about an hour - and costs about $50.00. From there we can take a train to Annecy in a little less than two hours.

Does that make sense? Am I looking at it right?

Thought I'd best check with the experts.

Thanks for your help.

I don't see any added convenience in the flight-plus-train plan; it's several more connections to make while carrying your luggage. The 9:00 TGV train departure requires only 1 connection at Lyon, so that's an easy ride, but not along the most scenic route. Reserved tickets go on sale about 3 months ahead for the best price.

Driving via Digne, Sisteron, and Grenoble is a nice route, called the Route de Napoleon; see also www.viamichelin.com for recommended "discovery" driving routes. If you don't like driving, it's also possible to take a CFP train on the scenic route from Nice to Digne, then connect by bus to Gap, then regular train.
