Getting from Mont Saint Michel to Bayeux on a Sunday

We need to leave Mont Saint Michel on a Sunday and head to Bayeux. We are relying on public transportation. There doesn't appear to be train service on Sundays for this route (at least from what I can tell). I should have checked the train schedules before locking in our lodging in Bayeux. I cannot determine that there is bus service. I'm thinking we will have to rent a car or take an expensive taxi ride (if possible). Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

The German rail site integrates buses and trains. It shows one 3-hour trip departing at about quarter of 5 on Sundays, with a change in either Coutances or St. Lo.

I would bite the bullet and rent a car, not just for the trip from MSM but for the trip to. It will save you time and hassle.

Depending on your itinerary you can rent in Rennes and return in Caen or possibly Bayeux, or just rent on Caen or Bayeux.

It's going to be slow going by bus and train--at least six hours on a Sunday. The other alternative is to contact the Hotel Churchill in Bayeux and beg to get on their mini-van when it returns from Mont St-Michel. They run a shuttle from the hotel to Mont St-Michel every day, and it's open to the public. You'll have to pay the round-trip ticket price, but it's worth it as a time-saver. Sometimes guests use it one-way from Bayeux to the Mont, so there is a slight chance of an opening on the return to Bayeux.

You can get different results by requesting "Mont St Michel" versus "Pontorson-Mont-St-Michel." DB is showing several train/bus combos on the Sundays I tested. Most departed late, but there's a morning option departing at 9:25 with connections in Rennes and Coutance. Don't look for schedules beyond June 14 at this point.
