Getting from Dordogne to CDG airport

Hello-
We are considering spending 5 days in Provence and then driving to Dordogne and spend 5 days there. What would be the easiest way to get to CDG airport? Drive to CDG directly or drive to Bordeaux and taking the train to CDG? If the best way is to drive to CDG directly are there any sites to see on the way? We will spend the night at the airport and fly out the next day. Thank-you in advance for your insight.

This website compares driving routes from A to B. In this case, you have to supply point A. Sarlat-la-Caneda might be a good choice, a good-sized town in the Dordogne with lots of services and reasonably close to major sights. It shows 6-7 hours driving to CDG, including a stretch through heavy suburban Paris traffic. And its estimates don't account for any stops or traffic delays, so you're looking at a long hard day if you drive. Lots of great places on the way, but no time for them.

So, assuming that you have just a day to get there, I'd suggest the TGV from Bordeaux, which should take about four hours.

You haven't specified when you want to travel.
Be aware that if it's a weekend in summer (July / August) the return to Paris by car can be problematic because of the heavy traffic during these periods when everyone is leaving or returning from vacation. And not just around Paris.

In this case, going on the web to make a car travel time simulation several months in advance will not be reliable ( and the TGV from Bordeaux would be a wise solution).

We have driven from the Dordogne to CDG in one day in spring with a long stop to have lunch with friends in Tours. We arrived about 8 pm at the airport hotel.

You need to do this the day before of course. AND you need to get dinner or pick up a picnic to have in your room before you get there. The worst meal we have had in Europe was at the Hilton that evening -- hideous rude service and nearly inedible dried out food -- and expensive. We expected expensive and we are not that picky -- this stuff was awful.

If you are including Paris in this trip, then re-organize the trip so you start in Provence, head for the Dordogne and then finish with a few days in Paris. Having to travel so far the day before the trip ends to catch a plane really makes the end of a trip miserable. If you are not including Paris consider flying out of a city in the south. If you fly into CDG you would then train to Provence that afternoon making use of that miserable jet lag day to get to your furthest destination.

I agree that food options in the hotels around CDG can be less than good. The restaurant in my hotel didn't open until 7 PM, which squelched my idea of eating early and crashing. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some exceptions, but I definitely recommend either careful research in advance and a reservation or the pack-a-picnic idea.

Thank-you all for your responses. We are traveling the end of May. I appreciate all of the recommendations for meals and avoiding the airport hotel restaurants. Sounds like it might be easier to take the care back to Bordeaux and train to CDG. We are also considering staying in Provence for the entire 11 days and fly back out of Marseille. One option is to connect in Madrid instead of CDG. Would have three hours for connection in either airport. So many decisions!
