Getting from Caen train station to Brittany ferry port

We'll be traveling from Bayeux to Portsmouth in October, taking the ferry from Ouistreham. The one piece I haven't nailed down is getting from the train station in Caen to the ferry port. I've read there's a bus, but it drops you off a thousand or so yards from the actual port. Can someone confirm that, or give me better information? Otherwise, is a taxi the best option? If so, are taxis readily available at the train station in Caen?

Thanks,
Harry

I can't help on the Caen railroad station to Quistreham ferry but have done the opposite on the bus that awaits the ferry. Taxis are readily available at the RR station and it's about 10-12 miles to the ferry. I'd guess the fare would be around 20 Euros. When we're in doubt about a bus we always opt for a taxi. Enjoy Portsmouth and all the glorious British naval history if you can.

Oh, and be sure and notice the famous Pegasus Bridge on the Caen canal that was taken by British glider-borne commandos on D Day, since the road to Quistreham runs parallel to the canal.

What George Said. The actual bridge over the canal has since been replaced with a larger one, but the original one is on display at the Memorial Pegasus Museum. This was an amazing story of heroism by British paratroopers in the earliest minutes of D-day to secure the Eastern flank of the landings and prevent German reinforcements from counter-attacking.
