Getting back to Paris from Mont Saint Michel early

Can anyone tell us how to get back to Paris by early afternoon from Mont Saint Michel.
We are prepared to leave early if needed.
From our research it seems we have to catch a bus from the Mont to Rennes & then a train from Rennes to Paris.
My questions are:
What time does the first bus leave MSM?
How often are the buses?
How long does it take to get to Rennes? ?? 1.2hours
Is the bus reliable?
Can we pre-purchase the bus ticket online, now? If so, how?

We are going to be there mid September.

Here’s a link to the bus schedule and here’s one to the train. I chose a midweek August day because weekend schedules are often more limited and the bus schedule for September is not yet available.

There is also a 9:20 train from Pontorson that will get you to Paris by 2 PM, connecting in Caen. I think the bus-to-Rennes option is lots better, but this might be cheaper.
