Getting around Paris by trains

Hi.

Traveling to Paris at end of month. Looks like olympic-related fares and pass products will still be in effect (I'm traveling during the paralympic games) - but it's a little confusing. Anyone there now who can speak to the following:
1) Are paper farecards completely gone. If so, are you buying your RER and Metro cards through the transit authority app?

2) I read this article which I think says you can't buy both RER and Metro tickets on the same phone???
https://parisbytrain.com/cdg-paris-metro-train-airport-ticket/ (see last section). Is this the case?

For my part, I'd planned on taking RER/Metro combo to my hotel from CDG, then may need to Metro around while in Paris later that day. If this article is correct, how are you all dealing with this? I was hoping to avoid having to get a magnetic card. (I've enough of those lying around at home....) I'm also headed to Brussels the next day, then come back to Paris for one half day and night. Was hoping to just do pay as you go for fares, but I'm getting the sense I can't do that during the games.
Tx.

If you are coming during the Paralympics Games, that is indeed when the special fares are still in effect.

You will probably do best to buy a Paris 2024 pass for the number of days you will be in town. That will get you in from the airport and around everywhere.

The thing about not being able to put an Orly airport metro ticket on your Navigo Easy card doesn't apply 1) if you have a Paris 2024 Pass or 2) If you're not going/coming to/from Orly airport

The pricing below is in effect until 9 September, at which time, all fares return to their normal pricing.

  1. You may still be able to purchase a ticket t+ in paper format - 4€ each. Otherwise, all fares are electronic and must be loaded onto either a Navigo Easy card or a configured smartphone.

  2. If you want to use a smartphone, it must be configured with either the Bonjour RATP app or the IDF Mobilité app. Users of iPhones must use the latter.

Current pricing is as follows:

Ticket origine-destination (for RER or Transilien trains) - 6€, Note: these are sold in paper format only.
Ticket t+ - 4€, 10 for 32€
Ticket MTA (métro train aéroport) - 11.80€ for CDG, 10.30€ for ORY
Airport buses and OrlyVal - 16€

There is basically only 1 pass option, the Passe Paris 2024. These are zone 1-5 passes, purchased for any consecutive day period day you like:

Number of consecutive days Price

1 day €16

2 days €30

3 days €42

4 days €52

5 days €60

7 days €70

There is one element of electronic fares with which you should be familiar, you may only load a Navigo Easy card or smart phone with either tickets t+ or a ticket MTA, not both simultaneously.

I just got back yesterday. I bought my Farecard using the Paris Olympics Transport app. I had the 7 day. It worked great.

On another note, the trains were usually not crowded, except for the 2 football games we went to, which were packed in both directions. After the Morocco/US game we decided to just hit a cafe and have drinks and wait until the masses had departed. Also, the RER trains were usually roomier and had more seating, so if that was an option we chose it.

waiting for the next train after a game or concert is a good move. We did this this spring after a concert at the Philharmonie. The train was crammed cheek by jowl so we just didn't board and waited 6 minutes for the next train -- we got seats with no problem.

I have also been researching train/metro travel in Paris, since we will also be there during the paralympics. After clicking and reading a lot of links, it looks I will need to buy a "Paris 2024 Four Day" pass for €52, which would also cover travel to/from the airport. So, one purchase.

In addition, it looks like you can buy the "Navigo" transit pass, and specifically the Paris 2024 pass, directly in the iPhone Apple Wallet. It appears this is a pretty new feature for the iPhone (introduced just a few months ago, I think), so I'm not sure how well it works, and if that's all I would need to do. I don't think I would need any other Paris transport apps. Although the Bonjour RATP app would be helpful in navigating my routes.

Like kmh1, I'm still trying to understand it all.

If anyone has a different understanding, please share!

The only practical difference between the Bonjour RATP app and the IDF Mobilité app is that for iPhone users wanting to use their devices as a card replacement, they must use the IDF Mobilité app. Really, the IDF Mobilité app does it all.

Similar questions as other folks.

I'll be in Paris during the beginning of the Paralympics. I plan to buy the "Paris 2024 Pass" through the app on my iPhone. I'll probably need to buy the 7 day pass as I think I'll need it for 6. A friend was in Paris for the first few days of the Olympics and she said using the app was easy.

Am I correct that the multi-day pass is consecutive days?
