getting a train reservation so close to leaving on the trip

Hi,

On Saturday, we are flying out of Toronto to Paris. We'll be in Paris for 3 nights... then taking a train to Munich.

I was just going to get the train reservation from Paris to Munich once I got to Paris.... but someone here suggested I made the reservation now. Is the reservation something I can just print out on my home computer, or does a ticket need to come via mail? I'm just wondering because if it's through the regular mail ... there's not enough time.

FYI - We already have a 4 country select rail pass (France, Germany, Austria, Italy).

You should try booking it now and see what delivery methods are offered at www.raileurope.ca. It will either offer home delivery by overnight service, or print at home, or pick up in station. In the past, these were not for sale in train stations within the last three days before departure. That is supposed to have changed, but the number of places for pass holders is still limited and often sells out early.

If you choose a train with a connection, you're only required to reserve the first half, such as from Paris to Stuttgart, Mannheim, or Karlsruhe.

You could try booking the ticket on www.captaintrain.com as they handle trains for both France and Germany. If they provide the ticket, you should be able to print it out at home before you leave.

One of the easiest trips on that route appears to be a departure from Paris Est at 10:42, arriving Munich at 16:27 (time 5H:45M, 1 change at Stuttgart). Be sure to allow enough time to get from the area of your hotel to Paris Est.

Ken, they have a rail pass and pass holder seat assignments are available today through Rail Europe. CaptainTrain doesn't handle that.
