Geneva to Chamonix 7 days - where else?

We are headed to Chamonix for a wedding in early July. We will be there for 7 days. We arrive in Geneva and train to Chamonix. We will check out Geneva for a day. The wedding will take 3 days. Any recommendations on where spend the remaining 2 days that is nearby? Or should we stay longer in Chamonix? Also, in Chamonix We, party of 5 adults (family), intend to stay in the city center. There are many hotel options, but wondering if anyone has a specific recommendation for a chalet or apartment?

You mention the train. IIRC bus service may better between those two cities, if you haven't checked that out yet.

check put the small town of annecy on the lake.
30 minutes taxi ride from geneva.
i have posted things to see and do. either in search bar up top: annecy or click my name and look for posts about annecy. (oct 2019)
we absolutely loved it and city center with shops/restaurants/farmers market days/wandering around canals.

You don't mention what kind of interests you have. If you are into hiking and physical
activities, Chamonix is the place.

At the least, taking the Aiguille du Midi gondola, maybe the Panoramic Mont-Blanc across
the glacier & Skyway Monte Bianco into Italy. This trip, plus maybe the train to the Mer de
Glace, are not to be missed. It would be a shame to go to Chamonix, just do the wedding,
and not explore the Alps while you're there.

Annecy is lovely, but a completely different place - old town atmosphere, shops to wander
thru. Worth a night or maybe two. I'd spend the rest of the time you have in Chamonix.
Maybe even to the point of skipping Geneva. It's just another expensive Swiss city.

I can recommend Mountain Base (mountain-base.com) as a rental agency for apartments
or chalets in Chamonix.

I would also suggest a day trip through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Courmayeur. Flix bus makes it an easy day trip. Perhaps as another poster mentioned take the Panoramic Mont Blanc gondola from Chamonix to Courmayeur and then bus back.
