Geneva - Chamonix - Aosta

Hello all,

In July, my family and I will be seeing French Switzerland and the French Alps. We are staying in Geneva as a home base. One day we will be going to Chamonix. Rick Steves mentioned that from the Aiguille du Midi view point, you can take a cable car to Aosta, Italy.

Does anyone have any recommendations for getting back to Chamonix from Aosta? Or alternatively how together from Aosta to Geneva?

Any general recommendations about Chamonix and Aosta would also be appreciated :)

Thank you!

jacob,

How are you planning to get from Geneva to Chamonix?

From the Aguille du Midi, you can take the Panoramic Mont Blanc over the glacier to Pointe Helbronner and then down to Courmayeur. The easiest way to get back is to travel back on the cable car. There are bus services from the Italian side, but that's not exactly going to be an easy day trip. You might consider just going to Pointe Helbronner and then back to Chamonix.

I second what Ken said,Aosta is about 40 Minutes down the hill by car and it has Roman Ruins and it should be done on another day.

Thank you Ken and Mike! This is really helpful information.

Aosta will have to be a different day then :)
