General and national strike this Tuesday?

I'm looking for information about a national general strike in France tomorrow.

I've had a notification come to my phone but I don't know about the unions mentioned.

Does anybody know if the emergency services, the border officers or the autoroutes and hotels, restaurants, etc., will be involved or is it much more confined to certain sectors?

Is it truly nationwide or is it more likely to hit in some places than others?

A national strike has been called for the 9th but effects will vary by regions. For example, expect significant disruptions to public transportation in Reims and Lorient. Schools will be affected but not emergency services.

The SNCF has not yet released any specific planned disruptions and I find very little in this mornings news.

My impression right now is that the strike will be more of a show of force, marches in Paris and elsewhere, than it will be a widespread shutdown of services.

We´ll probably know more this afternoon.

Nigel -- this is too bizarre, I have heard absolutely nothing about a strike tomorrow and I usually try to pay attention to these things. Let me see what I can dig up.

Here's an article from La Dépêche du Midi : https://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2018/10/08/2884188-journee-greve-mardi-carte-manifestations-occitanie.html#/[email protected],1.1801490638284804,5.722452820976738.

It addresses specifically the Occitanie region. It looks as if the only impact on a visitor in Toulouse should be an afternoon demo in the city centre and some diverted bus routes (and perhaps the metro will be busier than usual).

I don't think this one is going to be too big (famous last words). In fact, most of my research turned up articles from the end of August when the strike was announced, second-biggest section of articles being local press about public transport being disrupted in various regions.

There will be a protest march on the Left Bank of Paris, from Montparnasse (place du 18 juin 1940, in the 14th) to Place de l'Italie (13th) in the afternoon.

Anyone who has plans to travel by rail tomorrow should check the sncf website to see if there is any information about cancelled trains, but I don't think the effect of this one is going to be very dramatic.

Well, one update - the city of Paris has put a notice on FB that trash collection may be affected by the strike tomorrow.
