Gare de Reims ville versus Reims Maison Blanche

My wife and I will be traveling from Strasbourg to Reims.

However, I noticed that there are 2 train stations in Reims (Reims ville vs Reims Maison Blanche).

Are they both on the same line? ( does the train stop at both stations?)

We want the GARE DE REIMS which is closer to the town itself.

Thank you!

Are you looking at a TGV (fast train)? It would be extremely unusual for a TGV to make two stops in the same city. One way they cover ground so fast is that they simply do not do that. In many cities all the fast trains coming in from one particular direction go to the same station. There are occasional exceptions to that.

Go to the SNCF website, enter Reims (Fr) (Grand Est) as your destination. For the morning of the random date I chose, all the routings required at least one change. They involved a TGV to the "Champagne-Ardenne TGV" station outside of town and a TER (local train) connection from there to Gare de Reims.

You'll want to avoid the trains that route you through Paris. Those trips are longer and often more expensive.

Maison Blanche appears to be a minor stop on the line from the main Reims station to Epernay. I wouldn't worry about it. The train from Strasbourg probably won't call there, or if it does it will call at Reims Ville as well.

I took the fast train from Strasbourg to Reims. You are dropped off at a station outside of town (Gare de Champagne-Ardenne) and have to connect to a smaller local train to get to the center (seems to be referred to as both Gare Centre or Gare de Reims).

The center train station has a TI. I used them to make a reservation for a tour at Mumm's, then walked there from the station. The cathedral is also walking distance. Across the street from the center station is a nice area for dining and lodging. It's a mostly pedestrian area with a string of fountains.

Maison Blanche is a small station in the suburbs - probably for people who commute by train to work. There is at least one more small suburban station (Trois something). Unless you are staying near one, you probably won't use them.

The big station is only about three miles from the center. It may not be worth waiting 15-30 minutes for a ten minute ride to Gare de Reims. Unfortunately, I didn't check to see how convenient a taxi/uber would be because I didn't realize how close it was until after I left.

Afterward I took the train to Paris and, same thing, you take a local train (or taxi/walk) out to the big station to catch the fast train.

Reims Maison Blanche is a very minor station. Not convenient to alight there indeed. Several lines converge in Reims Ville so the notion of 'same line' is hard to answer, I don't have a network map at hand...

But regardless, the SNCF booking engine will let you pick Reims Ville specifically so you should be fine. Stops are announced on trains, and there is a huge difference in station size, so you can't go wrong.
