Further notes on CDG airport hotels - the Sheraton is closed and yet still selling rooms!

This is a new comment on the CDG airport hotel topic that has been ongoing.

I am in the process of booking a one night stay for October 2021. I read over all the notes on the other thread and saw Bets' comment about the Sheraton being closed and did a little looking around as I planned to book the Sheraton since I am on a Terminal 2 flight.

Both Booking.com and Marriott sites will book a reservation for June, July and October (these are the random dates I checked).

However, if you look at the Booking.com reviews, you will see reviews from people who are showing up, with a reservation in hand, and finding that the hotel is locked and shut. There is one review from as recently as June 9th>

I have looked but cannot find information on a reopening date.

@Bets - you are amazing - thank you for posting this and saving people a lot of grief:)

Update: it reopened July 19th.

We just happened to stay the night at CDG in February on our way to the States; no magic involved. That’s awful what happened to some who booked.

I had wanted to stay at the Sheraton, booking directly, but kept hitting a wall. The company directed me to another hotel in the group out a ways. So I called to find out what was going on and found out it was closed for remodeling. We stayed at the Hilton.

Further Note: the Hilton was one of the hotels that had shut down its shuttle service at that time. So again book directly and be sure to check all amenities.

Now I've done more looking on the Sheraton site. It won't book me on June 23 but will book me on June 30. If anyone can find out the projected reopen date, I'd love to know. I am assuming it will be open again by October, but...

When I look at the Booking.com reviews, there have been people showing up to find it closed for weeks and weeks.

I stay at the Ibis Styles near the end of the RER line then it’s a short train ride (I think it’s called CDGVAL) right into the airport the next morning.

There's a regular Ibis right at the airport itself, and I think other hotels besides Sheraton and Hilton. You have multiple choices without having to go beyond the airport.

@Aimee - Thank you for taking the time to post that about October. I was assuming that it would be open by then but now I will book in T3. Booking.com is still making reservations as of this morning. Let's hope they stop at some point.

I really liked the location as well since my flight is from T2. They fewer things I need to do early in the morning, the better - I know it's just a short ride on the CDGVAL but that is the key kind of place for my travel partner to lose his phone, his passport etc. It's something about the early morning airport arrival that always rattles him and so I try to simplify as much as I can:)

There are a number of hotels open at CDG. There are 6 at Roissypôle which is on the RER B line as well as the CDGVAL line and within walking distance of terminal 3. It takes about 5 minutes to reach terminal 2 (I think that terminal 1 is still closed) using the CDGVAL line from Roissypôle.

The Roissypôle hotels are:

Novotel ****
Tel : 01 49 19 27 27

Pullman
Tel : 01 70 03 11 63

Ibis
Tel : 01 49 19 19 19

Ibis Styles
Tel : 01 70 03 14 00

CitizenM
Tel : 01 78 90 26 53

Hilton
Tel : 01 49 19 77 77

Farther down the CDGVAL line, near terminal 1 are:

Mercure
Tel : 01 49 19 29 29

Holliday Inn Express
Tel : 01 80 43 03 43

The free CDGVAL train operates daily from 04h00 to 01h00 and only takes minutes to reach the terminals.

That's outrageous that the hotel is still taking bookings, and people are arriving to find it closed. That HAS to be something that programmers can fix!!!

Kim

I think it's booking dot com taking the reservations, not the hotel. Being booking dot com they will get around to sorting it out by the end of the millennium.

To add to the confusion, Aimee says the Sheraton reached out to tell her they'd be closed on October 4th.

But I can book a room starting July 1 on the Sheraton website. They won't let me book any earlier than that, though.

It's not just Booking.com, unfortunately.

I actually attempted to book the Sheraton on the Marriott Bonvoy website as I have a Bonvoy account and Sheraton is now owned by Marriott. The website allowed me to book a room at some late June date. I never paid but it is very surprising that more definitive information is not available.

I also called the Sheraton Roissy. A prerecorded voice said that the hotel has been closed since March 2020 and to direct question to an email address: [email protected] I sent a message asking when the hotel will reopen. Maybe I´ll receive a reply in a few days. Maybe not.

Update: No one could be more surprised than I when I received a response to my email about the reopening of the Sheraton Roissy:

Bonjour Monsieur

Bien cordialement,

Silke Priess

Directrice des Services Accueil/ Director Front Of House

English translation - no news.

It all seems rather odd to me as traffic at CDG has certainly picked up with the opening of France to tourists. Not opening up in the very near future might mean a change is coming.

@Tocard - thanks for following up. To save you all a trip to Google Translate, here's the email:
*Hello sir
Thank you for email.
Unfortunately, the date for the reopening of the Sheraton has not yet been set.
We continue to monitor the situation and hope to be able to reopen quickly.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Best regards,

What's amazing to me is that, despite the email, they're still selling rooms for July!

Wow — that seems strange. Thanks for inquiring and sharing their response, Tocard.

It reopened July 19th.
On a different thread, Aimee said she had booked at the Sheraton, so I called the airport to see if they had opened, and voila. You are good to go, Valerie. Let us know how it is remodeled.

@Bets - This being COVID-era travel, that night at the Sheraton is no longer necessary because:
first - Delta cancelled my Paris-Seattle flight home.
second - when I rebooked, I decided to fly home out of Nice, since that's where I'm ending my trip:)
