Is this your first trip to Europe? Do you already have your airline tickets to Paris and home from Barcelona?

What was it about Florence and or Marseilles that draw you in?

You could fly to Florence from Orly Airport but it complicates getting to Barcelona; you can take the train to Marseille and then to Barcelona easier.

although this is not our first trip to Europe, this is the first time we go with my kids after 15 years... so Iet assume this is our first trip. We for sure (booked flight and hotel ) in Paris. but we have not decide or book anything after Paris stop. That why we are open for any suggestion.....

We loves culture so that why he is thinking Marseilles. and Florence

of course, as a family with kids, we like to visit a place that is safe for teen!

Hmm. Of all the cities in Europe, I'm also curious as to why Marseilles would be a top pick. Florence to Barcelona can be done by air, direct. I picked a random day in Aug and found 2 morning flights on Vueling.

But wait - you've booked your flights already? Is it return out of Paris? Then you're wasting an entire day and the expense of flying back to Paris. That complicates things (at least it would for me). I'd be tempted to stay in France.

I would go somewhere with cooler temperatures. Paris to Amsterdam only $51.00 one way on KLM. Lot's to see and do in Amsterdam

Unless you love heat I'd stay north. And I would fly open jaw, but if you already have your tickets round trip to Paris then I would probably go to your most distant spot first, the afternoon of arrival and finish with a week in Paris so there is no rush back to home base wasting the last good day of your vacation. That first day is miserable jet lag day; burn it up getting to your furthest point. London and environs makes sense, Amsterdam would be good, Strasbourg would be good, Normandy and Brittany would be wonderful if you rent a car and travel for a week. Bayeux and the Tapestry, the Normandy beaches, Mont St. Michel, St. Malo. The neolithic sites in the Carnac area. I would think this would all be much more pleasant in August than Barcelona or Florence. I love both of those places, particularly Florence, but it is an absolute oven that time of year. For us that is a no go, and as Canadians not used to stifling weather it might be unpleasant for you too.

With kids, I would consider Brittany. They'd probably like Saint Malo and Mont st michel and other towns. Otherwise, I'd consider Dordogne or Normandy. In Normandy, Arromanches is particularly interesting because they have a smaller scale museum and some of the remnants of the artificial harbor. Juno Beach (Canada) is relatively close and Arromanches is a delightful little city. I think the whole family would enjoy Honfleur and Etretat.

"English folks in London are not very nice, in my experience. As always, just sayin' "

Pretty ridiculous to condemn all the "English folks" in London with a statement like that. Maybe you found, in your experience, that the non-English folks were nicer? As always, just sayin' .

Be sure to visit www.seat61.com for how to easily and inexpensively book trains all over Europe. We booked a train Paris to Monaco, about 6 hours, but with great views and remarkably relaxing. You can book local trains from Paris to many French towns as well as to cooler places like Amsterdam. Good luck.

If you are thinking of going to the south of France, you might consider getting Rick's Provence guide book.

As I understand it August is peak travel time for Europeans and southern France is a prime destination, especially beach locations. So you may want to book you lodging sooner rather than later.

Many thanks for all you suggestion. After review all your recommendation, We decided, after 6 days in Paris, we will rent a car to go the D-Day beach and Mont St-Michel for 3 days. Then we will go to Nice / Monaco. Then fly back to toronto

Let me post another follow up question in another topic
