I am ending my tour in Chamonix in June and will be flying out of Geneva. I can't decide if I want to spend 3 days in Annecy after Chamonix or if I want to spend those days in Lausanne. It seems easier to get to Annecy via bus than to Lausanne. However, I'm told Annecy can be full of tourists while Lausanne is not so busy. I'm really looking for an ideal spot to unwind for 3 days after the tour ends. Thoughts?
It is far easier to travel to Geneva Airport from Lausanne than it is from Annecy. Also, Lausanne is easily reached by train from Chamonix, via Vallorcine and Martigny.
But rather than urban Lausanne, I'd rather stay in Vevey and tour the area. Montreux, Vevey, Lausanne are on the same railway with direct trains to Geneva Airport.
Having spent a week in Vevey , Montreux a few years ago I would also recommend that . Getting there from Chamonix - The eastbound Mt Blanc Express train will take you to Martigny ,Switzerland . The trip high above The Trient Gorge is great eye candy !! At Martigny you will connect with service to the north shore of Lac Leman and Vevey . https://www.mont-blanc-express.ch/
For what it's worth, getting to Geneva Airport from Annecy is not difficult at all. There
is a direct public bus #272 as well as Flixbus and BlaBlaBus. Having said that, I agree
that Annecy can be hectic at times.
In addition to the options already noted, there is a ferry boat that goes from Thonon
or Evian to Lausanne.
I agree about the buses but Annecy-Geneva traffic is horrible in the morning, so it is stressful.
