From Bayeux to Honfleur, Giverny then Paris?

Hi all!

We will be in Bayeux for 3 nights at the end of May and then headed to Paris. We will have a rental car that we need to drop. My family would like to leave Bayeux and drive to Honfleur for a visit, maybe lunch, then drop the car in Rouen and train to Vernon to see Giverny and then train to Paris. Does this sound like too much? Any suggestions for handling rental car drop or trains? For instance, can I buy tickets the day of in Rouen and in Vernon (to Paris) since I won't really know our departure times or is it better to pinpoint departure times and buy tickets for these routes in advance?

Thank you!

I haven’t looked at rail timetables, but I don’t think you’ll make it to Giverny in time for much of a visit. And what are you going to do with your luggage? I’d keep the car and drop it on the west side of Paris or La Defense. If you drive with a stop in a Honfleur, I think you’d be able to visit Giverny. It’s not worth schelping your stuff on and off trains and a bus.

We did similar to Suki and stayed in Honfleur after Normandy. We stopped by Etretat when we left Honfleur and dropped the car in Giverny, another option might be Rouen.

Also, make sure the auto rental company you select has offices in both pickup and delivery locations -- and that it will do a one-way rental. Not all do.

Thanks everyone, for your comments. I agree that keeping the car through Giverny would be easier than dealing with luggage and train timetables. Dropping the car at the western side of Paris seems like a good idea. I'll make sure the rental agency allows this.
Thanks again!

Check Versaille town for dropping, or Orly airport, in addition to La Défense, if there is no place to drop near Giverny.

Vernon is the town used to go visit Giverny. There is at least a Hertz in Vernon.
