Love the French weekly marches, particularly the linen tops/dresses (which form most of my summer wardrobe).
We are planning to head to Provence in late May. Does anyone know if the markets will have moved from the winter wear to the summer/linen wear by then? All thoughts appreciated, thank you!
July, August, of course. I've never kept track because I buy once it's very hot. Maybe you'll get lucky in May. Before the linen, vendors have slightly heavier summer clothes: t-shirt, tops, synthetic, light sweaters.
Here in the south of France, I wear linen dresses every day in July, August, and early September. Linen will definitely be in the shops, better quality, tighter weave, better threads, harder to see through, but it sells out early. I bought two dresses at Caroll, a quality chain, last summer.
| saw linen on the racks at Galleries Lafayette in Metz a couple weeks ago. The winter wear is on sale everywhere right now at steep discounts.
Thank you for your post. I am so looking forward to the markets. But I worry I will miss some and possibly really good ones. We will be traveling for 7 weeks all over France late June to early August. I would appreciate any tips on where or/& how to find the markets.
If you look on this website you find a list of artisan textile manufacturers. That may help.

This is a good site for art and antique shows:

This is a good website for "Brocante" which are the traditional flea markets:

In addition to the above you should check with the cities you plan to visit as they often have fabric specific markets. I know Heidelberg has one, and run across others in my wanderings, but can't remember where.
