French Riviera

My husband and I will be visiting the French Riviera in March.

Are there specific towns and hotels that you recommend staying?

Is it better to stay in one town or two while visiting the area?

St. Tropez is likely out of our price range; however, we would love the beauty of the coast and region.

Thank you
Laurie

How long will you be there? Will you have a car? That could help dictate if it would be worth choosing two locations.

Laurie,
To answer your questions, much depends on when you will be there and for how long. Also, what things do you like to do and see? Better still, when you think about this trip, how do you envision yourselves....relaxing on a beach, seeing art/architecture/museums/gardens, exploring village life and outdoor markets, cruising along the Corniche overlooking the Mediterranean (a la Grace Kelly and Cary Grant)? Lots of ideas to fill your days and evenings. Please give us some info about time and duration at least. Forum contributors are very generous with their expertise and can offer some excellent suggestions.

We haven’t decided if we will rent a car…open to suggestions.

We are wine lovers, appreciate interesting architecture, enjoy charming villages and the beauty of the coast and sea.

Hello,
Splitting your time between two areas depends on how much time you will be in the area.
For one week, I'd stay in one town or city...
Nice...for the city life, boardwalk , old town (was a bit grittier last time we were there), museums, excellent train connections all along the coast.
We once stayed in Villefranche-Sur-Mer, with a car, and drove to Monaco, Eze, visited Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, Nice, and even Genoa, Italy. Don't forget to take the coastal hike from Cap Ferrat.
You will find beautiful coastline and lovely architecture all along the riviera.
If staying, for 2 weeks, then staying in two locations makes more sense.
FWIW, our first time in the area was in March, and I only needed a light leather jacket for the evenings.
