French Riveria by bus

Hi all, we’re based in Nice for several days and have time to explore the small towns. We like to walk and want to take advantage of some of the pretty day hikes in the towns along the coast. Any suggestions from other travelers who used the bus system on getting to Menton, Monaco, Eze, Cap Ferrat? We walked to Villefranche sur Mer, had lunch, and walked back. We’re wondering about the best way to break up seeing the other towns. Perhaps Menton and Monaco by bus no. 100 one day. And have separate days each for Eze and Cap Ferrat. Would welcome advice from others who have done this. We’re also looking for suggestions for heading west of Nice to Cannes and Antibes. Thank you.

The Bus can be scenic along the coast, but take the train back from Menton, as it is far quicker and likely more comfortable. Eze and Cap Ferrat are best reached by bus from Nice. If you do go to Eze, you can walk down (with good dry ground) from the top down to Eze sur Mer, where you can catch the train back.

Antibes and Cannes are best reached by train. The route with the bus isn't as scenic and takes a long time. You can also go to St. Paul de Vence via train/tram and bus. From Cannes, you can take a Ferry to the Lerin islands (Ste Marguerite and St. Honorat). There are also a bunch of smaller villages and towns you can visit by train, but if this is a current request, many are pretty quiet at this time of year. January is often a time people in service businesses like restaurants take for a holiday (November is another one).

for speed and efficiency as well as lovely glimpses of the sea, the frequent, reasonably fast train do the job for me. Sit upstairs on the water side (right side heading towards Italy and Menton, on the left side heading towards Cannes and Nice form Italy).
