French public Lap swimming (Paris, Provence, Côte d’Azur)

Hello all,

I am wishfully planning our next European family trip for summer 2021?!? Aren’t we all?Although there are many things to consider, we are really trying to make a fun European family vacation work ...while allowing one of our teenagers continue with her swimming training while we are in France for several weeks. I’m working on a lot of details in the itinerary but would love any input you all may have regarding easy to use public pools conducive to a swimming work out. Any recommendations? Any spots in Provence close to pools that would be a good home base? What about Paris and cote d’azur? We were considering Avignon and Antibes once we venture outside of Paris. Pools close to a train stop? Any hotels you’d recommend large enough to swim laps (25 meters)? Thanks for helping me dream!

Most French towns have public swimming pools, particularly open air pools that are open in the summer. You don’t need to stay in a hotel with a pool.

https://www.swimmersguide.com/ Not completely inclusive nor up to date (seems like a lot of the French links no longer exist; but a google search cribbing off old links sometimes gets you to updated sites), but a good starting place when looking for pools when traveling.

Had to look thes up. Daughter is an aquatics director so we do check some out.
In Avignon, try La Palmeraie Regulation 25m 4 lane. Other side of the Rhone. For an indoor Stuart Mill 6 lane regulation, may need a taxi to reach. East of the center.

If she's training, I'd expect she's wearing a speedo type suit. French public pools require a swimsuit that isn't suitable for other purposes (they consider it a sanitary thing). Board shorts for boys, for example, are considered suitable for street wear and thus not acceptable; nor is wearing underwear under a swimsuit acceptable.

If you don't pack something, they sell swimsuits where you check in. As I recall, about 20 euro for men's suits. No idea on how much women's suits cost?
