Traveling to France/Paris for 1st time next April. Planning on 4 nites in Paris and then 3 nights in countryside wanting to experience a slower pace, wine tasting etc…. Was thinking of Burgundy or Bordeaux but would take all and any recommendations. Want to stay at 1 place.
Will you travel by car or public transport?
For only 3 nights and emphasis on wine areas, Loire Valley, Alsace or Burgundy would be good choices. And they all offer much more than just wine.
Do you have a preference of wine? That may direct your choice.
3 nights equals two days, not including travel.
The Dordogne is hard to beat. You can take the TGV to Bordeaux, approximately 2 hours, pick up a rental car at the airport and be in/near Sarlat in 2.5-3 hours. Bordeaux is a city. Not so much slower pace. What I think you’re looking for is what the French call France profund.
The Dordogne certainly is. Or you could take the TGV to. Aix en Provence. From there you have many options. Many people think it doesn’t get any better than Provence. Or train to Rouen , pick up a car and continue to, perhaps Dinan. Take a look at these places online and see which appeals to you.
Just looked the other reply. I agree with Jeanm. The Loire might be your best bet for the short period of time.
If you are flying from outside Europe reverse your visit -- start in the countryside and finish in Paris. You have little time -- 3 days in Paris, 2 in the countryside -- you don't want to waste the second to last day getting back to Paris for your flight.
If you are coming by trains from somewhere, nevermind.
