French announce tax on flights originating in France

From NPR:

France plans to put an "ecotax" on nearly all airline flights starting in 2020, French Transport Minister Elisabeth Borne said Tuesday. The new tax could bring in some $200 million that would support modes of travel that pollute less — such as trains.

The proposed tax is pretty nominal, ranging from 1.50€ to 18€ per ticket, and will not be applied to flights connecting through France nor arriving in France from elsewhere. It also won't apply to flights to Corsica or to other French dependencies.
